తెలంగాణా JAC calls for `cook-on-road' agitation

తెలంగాణా JAC calls for `cook-on-road' agitation...

HYDERABAD: Aimed at disrupting vehicular traffic, the TRS on Friday called for a `cook-on-the-road' agitation in support of Telangana on the roads of Hyderabad city between 9 am and 2 pm on June 19.

TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, KCR, his family members, the party politburo and all state committee members will participate in the agitation where Telangana supporters along with their family members residing in Hyderabad will cook food and eat on the roads. During the five hour dharna, all roads will be blocked and vehicular traffic not allowed, TRS sources said.

TRSLP Floor leader E Rajender told newsmen that KCR will participate in the programme at NTR Basavatarakam Cancer Institute where community dining is being organised. He said the state committee members and MLAs have been appointed as division incharges in all 150 divisions in the city and in Secunderabad Cantonment area and that they will take up door-to-door campaign urging the people to join the agitation in favour of Telangana from June 13.

In the state executive, it was also finalised to lay siege to Hyderabad city by the end of June or July first week as part of their agitation seeking the introduction of the Telangana bill in Parliament in the ensuing monsoon session, Rajender said.

As part of the third phase T movement, the TRS leader said a meeting is also being organised at Jagadgirigutta in the city on June 13 to mobilise the support of students and other organisations fighting for the cause of Telangana. Rajender said two other important dharnas - blockade of national highways stalling vehicular traffic between Telangana and other regions and rail roko obstructing trains passing between South and North India will also be organised. After holding meeting with JAC, dates will be finalised for the two agitations.

Rajender said the state executive also ratified another resolution in support of deadline set by JAC that the Telangana MPs and MLAs of Congress and TDP should quit their posts by June 25. JAC in its steering committee meeting held on Thursday asked all the MLAs and MPS quit their posts or face social boycott from June 26.

When asked about the elevation of higher education minister D Rajanarasimha as deputy chief minister, the TRS leader said: "it is because of the Telangana struggle launched by KCR that the Congress leaders from the region are getting plum posts in the state cabinet. They will not have political future if they neglect the aspirations of Telangana people in the next election," he said.

KCR warns against UT status to city

Hyderabad, Oct. 29: The TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, warned the Centre that any attempt to turn Hyderabad into a Union Territory would be strongly resisted by Telangana people.

“We will not give even an inch of Telangana land. Hyderabad is part of Telangana and when the state is bifurcated we want Telangana as on October 31, 1956. Telangana without Hyderabad is like a headless body,” he remarked.

“When Union Territories like Goa, Puducherry and Delhi have become states why should Hyderabad be turned into a UT?” he said.

Referring to reports that Centre was planning to have a UT, he said it was another attempt to create confusion.

Telangana trouble haunts Babu

HYDERABAD: TDP president Chandrababu Naidu had a bitter experience on the first day of his three-day Ranga Reddy district tour as Telangana activists created trouble at some places.
If some TRS activists tried to obstruct Chandrababu Naidu's convoy at Uppal this morning, Telangana JAC activists submitted a memorandum to him at a public meeting at Thottiannaram in Ibrahimpatnam constituency urging him to give a representation to the Srikrishna committee in favour of Telangana.
At another public meet at Abdullapurpet in Ibrahimpatnam constituency, some TRS activists created trouble raising anti-TDP slogans. TRS and TDP activists hurled party flags at each other. Police intervened and drove away TRS activists restoring normalcy.
During his 120-km tour, the TDP leader promised to extend financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each to 12 families which lost a member due to harassment by micro finance institutions.
At Bandlaguda in LB Nagar constituency, Balamani, an MFI victim, said that her family was literally on the roads as her mother had committed suicide following harassment by MFIs. She alleged that the MFIs were charging 60 pc interest rate.
Sayanna, a farmer, said the government had taken away his land for building Rajiv Swagruha Apartments but had not paid him compensation yet. At Thottiannaram, another MFI victim Balamanemma alleged that her husband had died of heart attack following harassment by MFIs. "They are resorting to various methods like confining borrowers and kidnapping them to get back their money," Balamanemma complained.
Fathima Begum alleged that they went bankrupt and were unable to pay the high interest rates. She urged the government to extend them Pavala Vaddi loans. Ibrahimpatnam MLA M Kishan Reddy, senior TDP leader T Devender Goud and other local leaders accompanied Chandrababu Naidu.

OU attack case: KCR warns against arrest of students

OU attack case: KCR warns against arrest of students
Hyderabad, 30th Aug: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said that his party will force closure of educational institutions in Telangana if anyone was arrested for the attack on lecturers from coastal districts on Osmania University campus on Saturday.

The situation could turn volatile in Telangana if the police went ahead with the arrests, he said while addressing a large gathering of people led by former Praja Rajyam leaders from Nalgonda district who joined the TRS on Monday. Mr. Rao noted that educational institutions in coastal districts remained closed on Monday due to the incident on Osmania University campus.

If that be so, he said a similar step would be taken in Telangana in the event of police arresting anyone. He said the students who confronted the lecturers did nothing wrong as they were only protesting that people from outside the region should not evaluate the answer scripts of B.Ed. exam.

Their action was justified because 20,000 students were aggrieved by biased valuation of answer sheets in the last Intermediate exams. Mr. Rao denied the role of TRS in slogan shouting against Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu while he was proceeding to Bayyaram to participate in a dharna on Monday.

It was done by TDP workers themselves. The police needlessly arrested a large number of TRS supporters in this connection. Asking Mr. Chandrababu Naidu why he should move in the region, Mr. Rao allegedthat police arrested TRS men whenever leaders from other parties toured.

Telangana agitations may not stops the Foreign students to join OU

Hyderabad, 25th Aug: Contrary to fears that Hyderabad will not be a preferred destination for foreign students in view of the Telangana agitation, the number of foreigners seeking higher education at Osmania University has increased considerably compared to last year.

So far, the University has processed applications of 1,700 students while the number of admitted candidates was only 1,463 last year. The number is likely to cross 2,000 with MBA, MCA and Engineering admissions yet to begin.

“This is a reflection of the craze for Osmania University education among foreigners and the structured admission process adopted by the University,” says T.L.N. Swamy, Director, University Foreign Relations Office (UFRO). He agreed that the university feared some drop due to constant media focus on campus agitations but now they are happy that the image is not dented.

An interesting aspect is the enhancement of students supported by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and those supported by their respective countries through scholarships.

The ICCR allocates foreign students to different universities and if it feared disturbances in OU, it would have opted for other varsities in the country. Out of the 1,700 applications processed, nearly 500 are ICCR sponsored candidates. Last year only 149 sponsored candidates were admitted.

Prof. Swamy says that 214 candidates have applied for Ph.D this year, of which 149 have already been issued admission letters and most of these candidates are sponsored by their respective Governments. It also reflects the confidence of those Governments in OU academics.

Number of students getting admitted in Certificate Course in English for Foreign Students (CCFS) is also increasing. This one-year programme is a hit with students from China, Middle East and Central Asia where students are poor in English language and communication skills. They take up regular courses after acquiring the necessary skills here.
