HYDERABAD: TDP president Chandrababu Naidu had a bitter experience on the first day of his three-day Ranga Reddy district tour as Telangana activists created trouble at some places.
If some TRS activists tried to obstruct Chandrababu Naidu's convoy at Uppal this morning, Telangana JAC activists submitted a memorandum to him at a public meeting at Thottiannaram in Ibrahimpatnam constituency urging him to give a representation to the Srikrishna committee in favour of Telangana.
At another public meet at Abdullapurpet in Ibrahimpatnam constituency, some TRS activists created trouble raising anti-TDP slogans. TRS and TDP activists hurled party flags at each other. Police intervened and drove away TRS activists restoring normalcy.
During his 120-km tour, the TDP leader promised to extend financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each to 12 families which lost a member due to harassment by micro finance institutions.
At Bandlaguda in LB Nagar constituency, Balamani, an MFI victim, said that her family was literally on the roads as her mother had committed suicide following harassment by MFIs. She alleged that the MFIs were charging 60 pc interest rate.
Sayanna, a farmer, said the government had taken away his land for building Rajiv Swagruha Apartments but had not paid him compensation yet. At Thottiannaram, another MFI victim Balamanemma alleged that her husband had died of heart attack following harassment by MFIs. "They are resorting to various methods like confining borrowers and kidnapping them to get back their money," Balamanemma complained.
Fathima Begum alleged that they went bankrupt and were unable to pay the high interest rates. She urged the government to extend them Pavala Vaddi loans. Ibrahimpatnam MLA M Kishan Reddy, senior TDP leader T Devender Goud and other local leaders accompanied Chandrababu Naidu.
