HYDERABAD: With the Congress core committee scheduled to meet on November 26 in Delhi, the Congress leaders from Telangana region are keeping their fingers crossed on the course the party would take on the vexed Telangana issue.
As elections are round the corner and all Opposition parties singing Telangana refrain, the Congress party is expected to arrive at a decision on the issue.
But Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy is likely to put forth his argument for an integrated State once again and try to make the Congress biggies think on the lines he does.
The core committee is expected to discuss in detail the implications of the stand in favour of separate Telangana particularly in the backdrop of film actor Chiranjeevi supporting the movement and Telugu Desam Party which had all along been rooting for a united State suddenly making an about-face and singing Telagana chorus. The committee is also expected to assess the possible impact of alliances among the Opposition parties and how the Congress should deal with the issue. If the Congress wants the support of TRS, it would have to take a decision in favour of Telangana but with Rajasekhra Reddy always throwing his oar in, it might not be all that easy.
But, according to sources, the Congress leaders have not overlooked the prospect of the party not doing very well in case it went to the polls on its own and not announce any decision on Telangana. The YSR camp is quite confident that the development mantra would see the Congress through and that it might not need any help from any party.
